The Band - King Biscuit Flower Hour: Complete Masters - 7/17/76 - Washington D.C.

This is as good as bootlegs get. It is everything recorded for The Band's appearance on the classic syndicated radio show "The King Biscuit Flower Hour." This performance was on July 17, 1976 from the Carter Baron Ampitheater in Washington D.C. Previous bootlegs featured only the 10 songs that were on the radio show. This Japanese bootleg from 2003 gives us 15 songs, taken from the pre-broadcast reels.

This would be the final year that Rick Danko, Levon Helm, Garth Hudson, Richard Manuel, and Robbie Robertson would perform live as The Band, culminating in their last show together on New Year's Eve, filmed by Martin Scorcese for his movie The Last Waltz.

For all you audio nerds, the mp3 files here are at 320 kbps. Enjoy.

  1. Hey, Dave -

Love the blog. Great stuff and much appreciated. I see that you are working on a post about the Basement Tapes. Given that you are obviously a music scholar and aficionado you are most likely already familiar with “Million Dollar Bash,” the book by Sid Griffin that details the story of Dylan The Band and the basement tapes. If you haven’t read it I highly recommend it. It’s a great rock’n’roll book.

  2. Thanks Jim. I have heard of that book, but I've never read it. I will have to check it out.

I've got a bootleg compilation called The Genuine Basement Tapes, but haven't listened to it in a long time. I will have to take it on the next long road trip with me, along with reading that book, before I do the post on The Basement Tapes. Thanks for the tip.

  3. Hi is there any way you could repost these songs because I'd love to have this bootleg but it seems to have become very hard to come by!

  4. hi, this link down t work, can you explain how to get the mp3 file
